My First Experience (2° period)

Describe
At the beginning of my class, I saw that my students were speaking in Spanish. Moreover, when I started to teach, they paid attention to me and helped me with the activities. They are very good students and they like to participate in class. I arranged the desk in groups in order to develop a warm up related to the topic: “Technology and You”. I used that arrangement with
a reading comprehension including some pictures in order to introduce the topic. The reading was about a scientific doing an experiment.  I proved that incorporating information that they already know is better for they to acquire knowledge. Furthermore, I used a big chart to explain the grammar structure of the present continuous. I did not include too much information in order to be clear. This class was nice. Although I was kind of nervous and sick, I enjoyed it.

To start with a warm up keeps students to be active the whole class.

Students learn better when they do what they really like.

I think that tutors, when teaching beginners, should incorporate active activities.

Based on what I already know about beginning with a warm up, I think that some students acquire information while playing.

Based on what I observed, I think students liked to learn with simple examples.

I believe that praising students plays an important role in their participation.

So, in the future, I will incorporate the eye contact with the students because today I did not perceive that I just paid attention to one side of the classroom.

In future lessons I will create more colorful charts.

The next time I teach this lesson, I will include active warm ups.

In future experiences I will also include more activities to develop in group.

  1. Hi Rosita, It is good to know that you enjoyed your class. I think we have to look for more interesting warm ups because these activities motivate students and they pay attention to you. You have Basic English students and I really understand when you say that they speak in Spanish, but I think that this situation is normal because they are beginners. However, we have to establish rules at the beginning of the class letting them know that they shoud avoid speaking Spanish, only if necessary. Good job my friend :)
